The Foundation is totally committed to the West. FAES believes in the concept of Europe. The European Union is a project built on a platform of shared values and joins the nations of Europe together whilst respecting their individuality. FAES upholds the concept of an open dynamic Europe for which freedom is a core value and that promotes freedom, democracy, prosperity and security together with its friends and allies across the Atlantic. Iberoamerica is a substantial part of the West, a truth that is vigorously denied by the enemies of open societies. FAES works with its associates in the region to consolidate the principles of freedom, democracy and respect for fundamental rights. FAES advocates building open, prosperous economies and bringing the region into the rest of the west as the best way of defending freedom, generating wealth and making progress in the fight against poverty. FAES maintains that the Atlantic link is essential and, today, key to the defence of freedom, democracy and the western way of life. The foundation"s work reflects its acute awareness of the various threats to democracy around the world. These include the advance of revolutionary populism in Iberoamerica, the anti-globalisation movements promoted by the left in Europe and the United States and the radical branch of Islam that resorts to terrorism to attack the West.
