At the annual celebration of UN Watch, the supervisory agency of the UN and defender of Human Rights Aznar receives at Geneva the "Guardian of Freedom Award" For his defence of the cause of freedom and his bid for democracy in the international scenario He is the first person to receive this award /28.05.10/ Jos? Mar?a Aznar, president of the Foundation for Social Studies and Analysis (FAES), has been distinguished in Geneva with the "Guardian of Freedom Award" granted by UN Watch, which has bestowed the award upon Aznar "as a champion of democracies united and strong" and "for his leadership and courage in defending liberty" it is the first time somebody receives this award. At the 2010 edition of the annual celebration, the organization has also granted an award to the first woman standing as presidential candidate of Afghanistan and as a steadfast defender of that country"s women rights, Massouda Jalal. Founded in 1993, UN Watch is a non-governmental organization whose mandate is to monitor the performance of the United Nations by the yardstick of its own charter and promote Human Rights. UN Watch participates actively at the UN as an accredited NGO in Special Consultative Status to the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC). The organisation has stressed "the singular distinction in favour of freedom and democracy in the international scenario" accomplished by Jos? Mar?a Aznar.
