Mar?a Aznar(Aznar) former Prime Minister of Spain and President of FAES Foundation, has assured that the reforms undertaken by the Government are positive in spite of the difficult circumstances around them. Aznar declared that it is comforting to be able to say that the inception of political action started by the Partido Popular(PP) once it won the elections and set up its government is positive. We are addressing exceptionally difficult circumstances, in an environment, moreover, of great economic recession in Europe, and we are addressing it with some very important decisions. In this sense, Aznar said that the labour reforms, the financial system's reforms and the structural reforms that have been announced are very important for our country's future. The former Prime Minister of Spain made these statements during a public event organised by the Partido Popular in Miami with Spaniards living in the US because of the upcoming elections in Andalusia and Asturias. In his address, Aznar referred to the incredibly large political representation of the Partido Popular" and the responsibility it entails. Many Governments are ours; we have never ruled in so many places; but no-one has had as much responsibility before", he stated. RECOVERING TIME In the event, which was also attended by Alfredo Prada, executive secretary of the PP in the US, Aznar declared that that the country is greatly injured. Every time the Socialists get into office in Spain, they ruin the country he assured. Nevertheless, Aznar asserted that we can make it, but that we must recover lost time. We are going to do it and we are doing it. It's not going to be easy but we know we have the experience and the capability to do it, he added. Recovery, according to Aznar, requires making the country sustainable and maintainable, the basis to address our country's two great necessities: recovering and creating a competitive country and generating employment". REGIONAL ELECTIONS Aznar also referred to the upcoming elections in Andalusia and Asturias. Andalusia, after 30 years, has to consider making a change. It cannot continue being the champion of unemployment, he said. We must have a great regional president like Arenas, he continued. Regarding Asturias, he declared that it needs stability and new horizons and in his opinion, it lies in the hands of a very capable and very intelligent woman, he said referring to Mercedes Fern?ndez. In addition to this, during his stay in Florida, Aznar received the keys of Coral Gables and held a meeting with members of Miami's civil society at the Miami Dade College, the largest university centre in the United States. Before going to Miami, Aznar went to Santo Domingo, where he was received by the president of the Dominican Republic, Leonel Fern?ndez, at the National Palace. Aznar also met with the candidate of the Partido de la Liberaci?n Dominicana, Danilo Medina, the front-running candidate in the upcoming presidential elections to be celebrated in May.
