In Rome, in an event organised by FareItalia with the participation as well of the Italian former Ministers Ronchi and Alfano Aznar: "We must recover the political principles which underpinned the euro" "We must put an end to the disorientation with which Europe has started the 21st century" Madrid, 13.06.12.- Jos? Mar?a Aznar, former Prime Minister of Spain and President of FAES Foundation, has stated that there are no miracles to get out of the crisis and therefore we must recover the political principles which underpinned the euro. Aznar participated in an event organised in Rome by the Italian organisation FareItalia, which also profited from the participation of the Italian former Minister of European Policy, Andrea Ronchi; the former Minister of Justice, Angelino Alfano; and the president of FareFuturo Foundation and of FareItalia, Adolfo Urso. At the gathering, Aznar stated that there are no miracles to get out of the crisis; there never were. The principles which have guided Europe to its good moments have always been the same. In his opinion, we must recover the political principles which underpinned the euro, which are not ideologically neutral and, therefore, need a deep, purely political explanation so that they can be understood and supported in the polls, making them feasible in the medium and long term . Aznar added that we must equally put an end to the disorientation with which Europe has started the 21st century, with an intelligent and flexible assertion of its own entity and interest. We cannot continue sailing adrift, as a continent lacking any strategic anchors or firm commitments to defend our interests and the type of society we support. The former Prime Minister of Spain stressed that the European Union has one of the most important political assets: history. And that means that we can and we must learn from experience. Each time we've been faithful to the European economic project, even if it demanded sacrifices, we gave profited from it, he remarked. With regard to the banking crisis, Aznar reminded that a year ago I proposed the creation of a European safety net with the idea that Eurozone members should share the costs of banking crisis in euro countries, because national markets ceased to exist in order to become a single European market instead. And I must say that I'm glad to see that this idea is acquiring full relevance today. What we need are precisely specific solutions to specific problems.
