The third generation of the "LIDERA" programme visited FAES to close ties and exchange ideas
Avarez de Toledo and Hirschfeld introduced the report "Latin America. An Agenda for Freedom 2012"
Madrid, 20.04.11.- FAES Foundation received on Friday, April 20, a delegation of more than 60 young Venezuelans chosen to participate in the "LIDERA" programme, which gives training in public policies. At the gathering, FAES shared with them its perspectives on leadership, democracy, individual freedoms and Rule of Law.
Addressing the meeting were the director of FAES' International Department, Cayetana Álvarez de Toledo, and the coordinator for Latin American Programmes, Guillermo Hirschfeld, who introduced FAES' strategic report "Latin America. An Agenda for Freedom 2012" to the attendants. This document, recently launched in Cadiz by the president of the Foundation, José María Aznar, analyses the situation and outlook of the Region and supports the idea that it faces a historic opportunity to consolidate its development.
For three consecutive years, and with the aim of creating closer ties with the democratic youths from Venezuela, FAES has received the visit of the members of the 'LIDERA' programme, a project independent from the Government and the Venezuelan political parties, supported by Universidad Cat?lica Andr?s Bello de Caracas, Fundaci?n Futuro Presente and Instituto de Estudios Superiores de la Administraci?n. The 63 members comprising this year's edition were selected among 2000 candidates with the aim of establishing points of reference to exercise their political leadership.
The meeting with this young group of political leaders, members of different sectors and trends of thought in Venezuela, is done within the framework of regular meetings organised by the FAES Centre for Latin American Studies to exchange ideas on how to improve the situation in Latin America and close ties with universities, think tanks and political parties from both sides of the Atlantic.
