_ Javier Zarzalejos: “The PP has to discuss, articulate and be able to express good ideas to continue undertaking the great national debates”
_ Octavio López: “We still need to regain the politicians’ credibility. We can achieve this by acting in an exemplary way and defending principles and values”
FAES Foundation and the PP of Aragón opened on Friday 6 the fifth edition of their Summer School in Tarazona (Zaragoza). Javier Zarzalejos, Secretary-General of FAES Foundation, Octavio López, Secretary-General of the PP of Aragón, and Luis María Beamonte, Mayor of Tarazona, opened the session.
In his address, Zarzalejos warned against the dangers of trivalising the political debate and the rise of populism and nationalism. According to him, the obligation of their party being, as it is, a political organization, is to “discuss, articulate and express good ideas which allow us to keep undertaking the great national debates with power of initiative.” He also stressed the importance of the Summer School conferences, as they welcome personalities who “help us place ourselves in such a confusing environment as the current one.”
Octavio López expressed himself along the same lines. He highlighted the value of education and training as a basic tool for political work, and insisted on the need to give prestige to politics. “We can say that we are doing better in economic terms, but we still need to regain the politicians’ credibility. We can achieve it by acting in an exemplary way and defending principles and values. We need to be able to take measures which give prestige to politics”, he clarified.
