FAES Foundation will launch and present on Tuesday, October 15 its report Propuestas para una estrategia energética nacional (Proposals for a National Energy Strategy), an updated version of the one published in 2011. The report, directed by Miguel Marín, Director of Economy and Public Policies of FAES Foundation, and coordinated by Pedro Mielgo, Chairman of Nereo GreenCapital, comprises the changes undergone by the energy sector in the past two years, and suggests new ideas to encourage a necessary debate in Spain. Alberto Nadal, Secretary of State for Energy, will participate in the event together with Mielgo and Marín.
This report analyses the geostrategic, technologic and regulatory changes undergone both in the national and international spheres since 2011 and which must be taken into account when designing the energy strategies as they should evolve along with the scenarios and factors that determine them. In Spain, some of the new elements to be taken into account are the increase of electrical deficit, the increase of the final price of electricity, the adoption of the Third Gas and Electricity Directives by the legal system, the impact of the crisis on energy demand and the new regulation.
The new context forces an updating of the diagnoses and adjusting the orientations of the first FAES Foundation report, the suggestions of which are still essentially valid. The aim of the new document is the same as the previous one, to contribute ideas for a necessary debate about a vital issue in Spain, which is still the most energy-dependent country of the major economies of the European Union.
