The agreement of the Great Coalition between CDU-CSU and SPD puts an end to 171 days without a government, the longest period in the history of Germany. Under the title A new awakening for Europe. A new dynamic for Germany. A new solidarity for our country. The lack of surprise about the pact is one of the greatest strengths of the new government, states the specialist in German studies Roberto Inclán, who stresses that the experience and the degree of knowledge of the three main actors –Merkel, Seehoger and Scholz- is the reason for optimism and a guarantee of stability.
_ CDU and SPD seem to have understood the message. The agreement is greater security promise, not only internal or external but also social.
_ Immigration, integration and solidarity have dominated part of the last term and will keep Germany bussy for the next years.
_ SPD must do their best to make GroKo 3.0 a success in order to reduce the progress of populist parties and at the same time to be critics with CDU to reverse its downturn in voting intention.
_ Merkel will not turn from her beliefs nor from her manner of understanding politics. The question, beyond her slogan “We can do it” is that if this coalition could make it possible.
