Mar?a Aznar, Executive President of the Foundation for Social Studies and Analysis (FAES), has attended in Washington the 2009 Annual Awards Dinner of the Atlantic Council of the United States. The Atlantic Council is a private association devoted to promote constructive leadership and engagement in international affairs based on the central role of the Atlantic community in meeting the international challenges of the 21st century.
The 2009 Awards Dinner of the Atlantic Council has honoured former American President George H.W. Bush, President of the United States between 1989 and 1993, and former German Chancellor Helmut Kohl for their distinguished international leadership. General David Petraeus, for military leadership; IBM chairman, CEO and President Samuel Palmisano for business leadership in the research, promotion and development of the communications, technology, and innovation sectors; and renowned baritone Thomas Hampson for artistic leadership.?
During the evening, Jos? Mar?a Aznar, who shared the table with Bush, had friendly encounters with the former American President and with former Secretary of State Colin Powell, and with other personalities and awardees of the Atlantic Council. Helmut Kohl was not able to attend to receive his International Leadership Award.
One of the purposes of this organisation is to stimulate dialogue and discussion about critical international issues. Fred Kempe who held several responsibility posts in The Wall Street Journal, is President and Chief Executive Officer of this institution headquartered in Washington. ??
Early in 2007, Jos? Mar?a Aznar accepted the invitation to become a member of the International Advisory Board of the Atlantic Council. With him, joined Alexander Kwasniewski, former President of Poland, Thomas Enders, President and Chief Executive Officer of EADS (European Aeronautic Defence and Space Company); the Chairman of Deutsche Bank, Josef Ackermann; and Zbignew Brzezinski, former National Security Advisor to President Jimmy Carter, amongst others.
