The Cuban Government was responsible for Orlando's death after 86 days on a hunger strike. He had been arrested on March 20, 2003. He was one of the 75 prisoners of the Black Spring. Under what charges? Contempt of Fidel's figure. He died serving a total sentence of 36 years of imprisonment for his decision of continuing to fight for freedom from jail. "The dictatorship has killed Orlando but his testimony will forever be at the side of freedom. With my warmest support to all Cuban dissidents who continue to fight for freedom, against the dictatorship, and for democracy to arrive as soon as possible to the Cuban people." With these words Jos? Mar?a Aznar expressed his condolences for the demise of Orlando Zapata. Today, one year after his death, he is still alive in our memory. He remains as a testimony of a fight for freedom we should not forget. We decided Orlando's death could not be in vain, that his peaceful battle should remain alive. We continue thinking the same. FAES would like to demonstrate once again its solidarity with the victims of a dictatorship who has been leading the life of Cuba since 1959. The coercion, violence and tyranny of the Castros' regime have been steering for too long the life of Cubans. 52 years without freedom makes the Cuban regime unsustainable.
