First Day of the FAES Campus Argentina: "Challenges and Risks for the Future" "Regional Management" and "Performance-Based Management" Madrid/Buenos Aires, 14.03.12.- The special conference "Regional Management" and the round table "Performance-Based Management" have closed the first day of the 2012 FAES Campus Argentina focused on analysing the "Challenges and Risks for the Future" of Latin America. The first one hosted as speakers the governor of Vicente L?pez, Jorge Macri; the Member of Parliament for Mendoza, Omar De Marchi; and provincial members of the La Pampa and Cordoba regional parliaments, Dar?o Casado and Javier Pretto, respectively. At the opening of the debate, Jorge Macri said he believed Argentina requires changing its national steer, but the opportunities to really recover as a country are in the hands of the governors. The closest management area is the city council, he said, and mentioned the city of Buenos Aires as a management reference that takes charge of the daily problems of its population. Those who are in charge have generated, in the face of scarcity, an outstanding management capability, he said. "We believe in the value of local government and in the art of managing with little money", Macri stated, and went on to say that neighbours don't expect from us monumental works, but merely that we improve daily life situations. In this sense, he asked for the recovery of a federal country and the real transfer of resources and capacities. His words were endorsed by the member of regional parliament, Javier Pretto, who specified that we have a great challenge before us, and local government is an excellent university for it. In turn, the member of the national Parliament for Mendoza, Omar De Marchi made a call to rediscover the values of good politics, old and new. Discard existing bad politics. There are people who have died in politics, defending freedom. We must rediscover those values. According to De Marchi, "we need to understand that politics are principles, vocation, respect for your neighbour and, finally, solving issues in favour of those people having a problem, hence he asked the people attending the Campus to open to voluntary political militancy. Finally, the member of the provincial Parliament of La Pampa, Dar?o Casado, considered that offering, from dissension, an honest and disinterested opinion improves reality. Stories of enemies are predominant in Argentina. Peronism offers one thing and the opposition vetoes it, Casado regretted. LEADERSHIP VALUE The last event on the first day of the FAES Campus Argentina 2012 was the panel called "Performance-Based Management", chaired by the president if the Housing Institute of the city of Buenos Aires, Emilio Basavilbaso. There, the president of Urban Highways, Gustavo Matta, described the strategy of the regional company to establish employee motivation and management improvement targets. In turn, the undersecretary of Economic Financial Management and Resource Management of the Ministry for Education of the autonomous city of Buenos Aires, Carlos Regazzoni, stressed that the real value of government, of leadership, is its capability of improving specific and real citizen life. Therefore, he qualified the objective has to be physical, real and specific because, otherwise, it ends up being wishful thinking.
