The former Prime Minister of Spain and President of FAES Foundation, José María Aznar, has met today, Monday, in the Czech Republic's capital, with Lilian Tintori, Leopoldo López's wife, the Venezuelan opposition leader. During the meeting, Tintori updated him onher husband's situation, imprisoned by the Chavist regime in Venezuela. Moreover, she discussed with him the repression suffered bythe democratic opposition in the country and the Human Rights situation there. Furthermore, Tintoriinformed him about the journeys she has scheduled fornext week to Brussels and Spain to report this situation.

The meeting has taken place within the contextof the Forum 2000's 18th edition 'Democracy and Its Discontents: A Quarter-Century after the Iron Curtain and Tiananmen', where López could not participate due to his incarceration. After the meeting, Aznar closed the forum stating thepriorities and aspirations of democracy in the 21st centuryand he declaredthat 'there is no better model than the liberal and representative democracy'. Through annual conferences like this one, which has hosted more than 200 world leaders, The Forum 2000 Foundation seeks to preserve Václav Havel's legacy by supporting democratic values, Human Rights, the development of civil society, and by promoting religious, cultural and ethnic tolerance.
