/10.01.13/.- José María Aznar has met with the President of Chile, Sebastián Piñera, on Thursday 10 at La Moneda presidential Palace. Furthermore, this afternoon and tomorrow Friday Aznar will participate in the first edition of the FAES Campus Chile: ‘A strong democracy for lasting prosperity’, organised jointly by FAES and the Union of Latin American Parties, UPLA, an association of the region’s centre-right parties and political movements.

These include the celebration of events such as the Ceremony granting the IV FAES Freedom Award to Mario Vargas Llosa; the ninth edition of the FAES Campus and its counterparts in Argentina, Colombia, Central America and the Caribbean and Peru; and the publishing and launching of the reports Rescuing the Euro, El mito fiscal. Razones para un debate and Latin America. An Agenda for Freedom 2012. Furthermore, FAES has published the four annual editions of its journal Cuadernos de Pensamiento Político, six FAES Papers and, through its imprint Gota a Gota, three new books.

Madrid, 24.09.12.- FAES Foundation received on September 24 the president of Chile's Chamber of Deputies, Nicolás Monckeberg. The director of FAES' International department, Cayetana Álvarez de Toledo, has offered him a copy of FAES' strategic report "Latin America: An Agenda for Freedom 2012" during a meeting also attended by the director of Constitution and Institutions, Ignacio Astarloa, and of the publishing department, Miguel Ángel Quintanilla, as well as Chile's MP, Jorge Burgos, amongst others.

Buena parte del gran público no especialista sólo conoce a Milton Friedman como el “reaccionario economista de Chicago que defendía posturas de extrema derecha”. Al igual que tantas otras opiniones generales, esta apreciación es falsa. Salvo que se considere reaccionaria la defensa enérgica del orden económico de libre mercado. Friedman fue un defensor muy eficaz de la libertad. De la económica y de las demás. No ofreció sus teorías para apuntalar dictadura alguna como hizo John Maynard Keynes en el prólogo a la segunda edición alemana de la Teoría general. No viajó a Chile para suministrar consejo ni apoyo a la dictadura chilena. Fue a impartir unas conferencias invitado por una institución privada. También viajó a España, durante la dictadura de Franco, para participar en un seminario de economía, en 1970, en Cataluña. Allí se vio a un futuro ministro de Felipe González departiendo animoso en los debates; también se pudo ver a algún que otro miembro del PSUC, sin que nadie le preguntara a Milton: ¿qué hace un liberal como usted en una dictadura como ésta?
