Youth unemployment is a tragedy. It is so from an individual point of view because anyone who wants to work and cannot, suffers. And it is also a tragedy from a society standpoint, since when a certain level of magnitude and persistence over time is exceeded, youth unemployment curtails the potential for long-term economic growth and, with it, many opportunities for welfare and prosperity.
Giorgi Margvelashvilli's victory, of the Georgian Dream party, in the presidential elections of Georgia last October 27 with a large majority of 62% of the votes, has opened a new political cycle in this country of the South Caucasus. However, its future will be conditioned by two issues of the past: its tense relations with Russia and the approach to the European Union and NATO.
I wouldn't want to point to anyone or anything in particular. But in these times of confused memory and widespread disqualification it would be convenient to make a minimum recalling effort to distinguish, from our common condition as fallible beings, the errors made by each of us, which are not necessarily shared.
The judgement of the Grand Chamber of the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) rules on a sensitive legal question in the worst possible way regarding the demands of justice and redress which should be faced by those real serial murderers who do not preach regret or show any sign of reintegration whatsoever.
