FAES ha conmemorado el 30 aniversario del derribo del Muro de Berlín haciendo públicos una serie de testimonios de diversas personalidades de la política, la economía, la diplomacia y la academia, tanto españoles como extranjeros. Doce voces que corroboran que el Muro de Berlín no se cayó, sino que fue derrumbado por quienes lucharon por la libertad en lo que fue un triunfo de la democracia liberal como sistema ético, político y económico superior al totalitarismo comunista. Y alertan, además, de las nuevas amenazas y desafíos que enfrentan hoy las democracias de mano de las mismas fuerzas totalitarias.
"Thirty years after the fall of the Berlin Wall, the challenges have not been overcome and in some EU states the rule of law is being questioned. The EU is more than a provider of funds; it is a space of shared values”.
"The fall of the Berlin Wall must remind us that the walls of authoritarianism can be destroyed and democracy and freedom can be extended", assures the director of the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung for Spain and Portugal, Wilhelm Hofmeister. "Today new walls against freedom and democracy are being built and all democrats must fight against it," he adds.
"I can appreciate what children of luckier nations than Hungary take for granted: to live in a sovereign country, without foreign occupation, in freedom and democracy. We Hungarians had to fight for all this. I am very proud to be heir to those who have fought for freedom and had the courage to face a left-wing dictatorial totalitarian regime".
The collapse of the Berlin Wall had important consequences for the world economy, fundamentally the end of the alternative to capitalism; the end of the socialist model as a competitive and equal alternative. An economic model that does not produce equality or prosperity.
