Prensa Trump’s first year and beyond

Donald Trump first speech on the State of the Nation has become the ideal moment to review the main characteristics of his first-year mandate. The construction through Twitter of a simplistic speech, lacking moral and political responsibility, has gave him the main connection with more than 100 million followers. He has focused on domestic politics—the economic situation has improved, and expectations could not be better—he has only look abroad for very concrete interests.

Prensa Why the Italian left is always divided?

The Italian left will assist again to the general elections with the division as a common note. Before the appointment scheduled for March 4th, and at a time where the coalition seems to be really necessary due to the new electoral law that rewards coalitions over parties, the favoritisms, the confrontations and the lack of agreement on fundamental points suggest that there will be no joint candidacy. This report goes through the history of the division and succession of defeats in which the Italian left lives since the end of the PCI.

Prensa Iran: the genie out of the bottle

The Islamic Republic of Iran has refined the art of blaming on its external enemies the internal dissatisfaction. Nevertheless, the origin of the last protests lies on the attempt of the ultraconservative clergy to damage and discredit President Rohaní. What started as a manipulation of the streets inside the framework of the typical fight of the elite of the country transformed into a massive and widespread movement of protests. Surely, the learned lection is that in a future it would be better to settle accounts behind the scenes rather than involving the streets.

Prensa Italy, on the way to new general elections

The Italian President has just put an end to the XVIII legislative term and the country finds itself now before a new political dilemma in which everything is possible. Prensa Spanish adhesion to Permanent Structured Cooperation (PESCO)

European cooperation in the field of security and defense is an unsatisfied ambition since the beginning of the European project. Spain is one of the 25 countries participating in the Permanent Structured Cooperation with the objective of moving forwards in real integration. But the EU would only be able to request the global leadership it deserves if the Member States strengthen their degree of political compromise and Brussels starts a coherent foreign policy.

Prensa Strength of Identity

Europe is in the throes of two simultaneous crises: on the one hand, it is suffering from a political crisis, a crisis of leadership, one that has led to constitutional failure; on the other, it is suffering from a loss of identity, a phenomenon that results in cultural relativism. Marcello Pera, Speaker of the Italian Senate and Professor of Philosophy of Science at the University of Pisa, delivered a conference entitled “Strength of Identity” during the course of the FAES Campus 2005, a paper which the FAES Foundation is now publishing. Also known as the co-author of the book Senza Radici (“Without Roots”) alongside Cardinal Ratzinger (Pope Benedict XVI), Professor Pera urges European culture to proudly recall and reaffirm its origins and its universal democratic principles: freedom, equality and tolerance. In this respect, Europe must recognise the intrinsic value of a civilisation, Western civilisation, that has given the world so many universal ideas. “Europe must be aware of the moral superiority of a series of values that have prevailed over centuries and that have produced beneficial results wherever they have become established”.
